The good news is that the skills you have picked up using your schools CAD system are transferable to OnShape, i was quite surprised at how familiar it all felt, you can also import your existing Solidworks and Inventor drawings and models into Onshape and it will export in many different formats including STL, please take a look at OnShape as a possible alternative to your schools CAD system.

OnShape are running some short online webinars that you might find interesting, click on the following link if you are interested in registering for any of the upcoming events https://www.onshape.com/onshape-sketch-aug-11

Happy CADing!

The iD Cards app identifies 32
key types of design representation used by industrial designers; when
they are used; and for what types of information. They facilitate more
effective New Product Development (NPD) through enhanced design methods,
communication, team working and inter-disciplinary collaboration.

iD
Cards are an outcome from research at Loughborough Design School from
2005 to 2011 that responded to problems in the use of language and
understanding for design representations (sketches, drawings, models,
prototypes) during NPD. iD Cards have been supported, distributed and
adopted by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) for use by
its global members (students/educators/practitioners). On a chance conversation with one of our Technology & Design teachers (Connor Devlin St Brigid`s Armagh, i`ve named you) he was able to tell me of another product that he feels excels Tensol Cement, it creates virtually no residue and bonds in seconds.

For anyone interested in possibly moving away from old faithful to new and exciting, the product is called Evo Stik Rapid Mitre Fix Trade 351882
All of the schools should now have been through the C2K Transformation and with all new systems comes the inevitable tinkering and tailoring to suit your own specific needs, as some of you have probably noticed there are new drivers required for your CNC machines.

We will upload any new drivers as requested to our VLE in order to ease the process.

In addition you might need to contact the C2K service desk 0870 6011666 and ask for 2D Design to be deployed to your school.
It has come to our attention that a number of departments are not aware that they should have received a HEPA vacuum cleaner. These have been provided from funding through DENI and are to be used in Technology departments only. It is crucial that the delivery note for this equipment is signed by an authorised person and the signed form returned to Kay Wilkinson in SELB HQ as soon as possible. Please contact jacquie.uprichard@selb.org should you have any queries about this. A pupil`s fingers were trapped between the table and rotating disc of the sanding machine. The school was fined £3500 and was ordered to pay an additional £5000 of legal fees.

CLEAPPS has discussed this matter with HSE officers, who reported that the main cause of the accident was the table of the machine was set too far back from the sanding disc.

This model of machine is not common place in our Technology departments but is of course very similar to the bandfacer, please can you ensure that the gap between the support table and the bandfacer belt is as small as possible and not more than 3mm.

Details of the HSE press release can be found at:
We have finally been able to put together a 64 bit version of the Solidworks Student Design Kit, unfortunately due to its size (6Gb) we cannot burn it to DVD. We recommend bringing in an external drive with sufficient space so that we can transfer it across.

Please be aware that it could take up to 30 minutes to transfer such a large file.Paul Rodgershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01691524123312037569noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7808632647875103366.post-3177040976803954532013-02-07T15:27:00.000+00:002013-02-07T15:27:27.225+00:00Bandsaw extractionAs you are already aware the Department of Education has provided funding to facilitate the extraction of bandsaws in Technology workshops. Solutions to this will differ from workshop to workshop and from school to school. An extraction system (for existing Hammer and Startrite bandsaws with an extraction port) will shortly arrive in your school. This will be installed and commissioned by Lee saw Company upon delivery. For those bandsaws which cannot be extracted, they will be replaced with a Hammer bandsaw with accompanying extraction unit. The installation of these units will be carried out by the maintenance department within the SELB. The school must therefore complete a sale or disposal form to ensure collection of the obselete bandsaws. We appreciate this is a very busy time for schools but we value your patience and co-operation in providing a smooth transition to new equipment.Martin Dalyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17886150281686758775noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7808632647875103366.post-48580349988283170212012-12-12T14:52:00.001+00:002012-12-12T14:52:49.942+00:00Solidworks Licence Number - UpdateA number of students and teachers have been waiting patiently on the new serial number for the existing SW student kit.
